Suz's Wordle (Word Art)

I had fun getting ready for RWA making different button for some of my favorite authors and playing with a wonderful fun site wordle.com to make bookmarks and a Word Art for Suz.

I gave Suz a matted and framed version (this isn't hers) of her Troubleshooters picture (but yet another version. )

Click on image to enlarge. Yes, you can print for your own pleasure.

You don't know want to know how many versions and additions of names I went through to get the bookmarks and final Wordle for Suz.

Didn't want to post about it until after RWA.

The Marriage Campaign by Michele Dunaway follows Lisa Meyer who is a campaign fund-raiser and Mark Smith who could really help her candidate. Unfortunately Lisa and Mark have a history.

Mark is going on a campaign of his own as he wants to know more about Lisa and get her to relax with her workaholic ways. I enjoyed watching Lisa trying to find a balance of work and a personal life as she is bombarded by Mark's efforts to get past her defenses.

Creation in Death by J.D. Robb

Creation in Death by J.D. Robb is another Eve Dallas mystery. This one focuses on a serial killer how has returned to New York. He likes to see how long his victims can survive his cruelty and leaves them for the police to find with the length of time they survived.

Eve knows that he has targeted his next victim and must find her before her time is up. Added to the time ticking away is that the killer seems to involve Roarke by using products from his company and the latest victims work for him.

I've been reading the In Death series for many years and look forward to each new book. Creation gives us a look at Eve under pressure of time and knows the killer has her in his sights. Reading Robb's In Death books are coming back to characters I'm very familiar with and enjoy seeing work together to solve the mystery.

As with the other books about Honesty there is an important subject paralleling the romance. Suicide isn't something that one would think a romance could be found but Adam's does it with sensitivity.

Doctor's Orders by Jessica Andersen Dr. Amanda Sparks re-enter's Dr. Parker Radcliff's life when she returns to Boston to work in his E.R. Mandy's inquisitive nature leads her down the road into medical intigue and Parker is determined to keep her safe.

This is my first Intrigue. I can't believe that I did not pick on up until now. What a wonderful romantic suspense story. It is told a slightly faster pace than single titles but Andersen gave a satisfying read. She did not overwhelm us with technical medical detail but enough to understand the mystery that Mandy had uncovered.

Promises to Keep by Kathryn Shay

Promises to Keep by Kathryn Shay follows an undercover operation in a high school when that school is at risk. Secret Service agents Joe Stonehouse and Lucas Ludzecky enter Fairholm High as a counselor with his nephew in high school. Principal Suzanna Quinn is a firm believer in open communication with both her staff and students. Learning that her school is a risk puts her ideals at odds with the good of her school.

Shay's many years as a teacher come through strong in this wonderful look at schools, teaching styles and the problems that are in our schools today. She created an ideal program where agents go undercover to help schools at risk. With so much school violence this story resonants.

There are two romances that we follow. Lucas has to maintain his cover as a high school student although he is well past eighteen. He'd love to have more than a student relationship with Kelsey Cunningham. Joe walks a fine line between doing his job and getting involved with Suzanna.

As always Shat does a fantastic job of drawing us into her story and makes us care for them. I read this book because it was the story of Caterina Ludzecky's brother Lucas. I loved the small snippet I saw of him in Cat's story.

Capturing the Millionaire by Marie Ferrarella

Capturing the Millionaire by Marie Ferrarella is the last book about the Sons of Lily Moreau. Alain Dulac is the last of Lily's sons to find love. He becomes stranded with a houseful of dogs and Kayla McKenna after he has a car accident.

It takes a few days for him to realize there is more to life than one night stands and his work. When the electricity returns and he has to return back to his life he finds himself wishing that he was back with Kayla and her orphaned dogs. Kayla realizes that Alain is a "player" and needs convincing that he has found his soul mate.

It was a fun ending to the three books about Lily Moreau's sons.

The Debutante's Second Chance by Liz Flaherty

The Debutante's Second Chance by Liz Flaherty is Landy Wisdom's story. She is trying to rebuild her life after the death of her husband. Micah Walker has returned to his small home town as the editor of his hometown newspaper.

Micah comes home with preconceived notions about Landy. Can he see how much Landy is the the "debutante" he grew up with but a woman who has overcome the shadows of her past. Landy has to learn to trust again and isn't sure that it is worth the risk.

Don't be confused by the "fluffy" title. Flaherty's book deals with spousal abuse and its effects on those around them. This is my first book by her but it won't be my last.

On top of the growing romance between Cal and Kayla is the mysterious events San Salustiano surrounding his brother's disappearance. Even in this shorter format Suz gives the reader a satisfying read. I enjoyed reading about Cal who is a strong cowboy with a strong sense of ethics.

The title says it all as Wiggs tells the story of a woman whose life is turned upside down by blindness. Wiggs has us follow the journey of Jessie, Luz, Lila (Jessie's daughter) and Dusty through their point of view. I found this to be a very compelling book.

The Wedding Party by Robyn Carr

The Wedding Party by Robyn Carr is a fun contemporary romance following Charlene Dugan. She decides that as part of her busy life it is time to marry again when her daughter claims she doesn't want to grow old like her mom. In the mix is a wedding planner who is working closely with her fiance since Charlene keeps missing their meetings, her ex-husband who drives her crazy but wants a second chance, their daughter who might be just a tad spoiled and her mother who can't remember where she's been.

This book is a slice of life in Charlene's world. We see a successful lawyer who wants to find time for love in her life. While not the same depth as Carr's Virgin River, she stil creates characters we care about. We care about Charlene's mother as she shows signs of early onset Alzheimer's and watch her daughter take major steps in acting her age.

Lakeside Cottage by Susan Wiggs

Lakeside Cottage by Susan Wiggs is a wonderful contemporary romance about a summer romance that could be so much more. Jordan Harris (JD) is hiding from his fame while thinking about what his future will hold and Kate Livingston is spending the summer at her family's summer camp to re-energize and think about her future. Add to this mix are a runaway, Callie and Kate's son, Aaron.

While called a summer read this book was a lot more. JD and Kate's romance wonderful to follow. We see JD's reluctance to socialize so he can keep his anonymity and watch as he becomes involved with Kate, Aaron and Callie.

This my first book that I've read by Wiggs but it won't be the last. Her characters have wonderful depth and I connected with them. Wiggs also deals with the serious issue of type 2 diabetics with teens. It was done with sensitivity and flowed with the storyline.

Hard Evidence by Pamela Clare

Hard Evidence by Pamela Clare - Tessa Novak, an investigative reporter, is an eyewitness to a crime and sees Julian Darcangelo who she assumes is involved in the murder. Julian is involved but not in the manner as Tessa believes. He is an undercover FBI agent following a killer that has haunted him for the past three years.

Julian is a dark and angsted character that can't believe how Tessa is getting under skin and making realize that being alone and having that "white picket fence" could be in his future. Tessa uses her journalistic skills to learn more about that murder she witnessed. Her investigation could put Julian at risk and definitely is putting her in the front of killers.

One reason I enjoy series is seeing past characters and Clare doesn't disappoint. We get to see Kara and Reece again. Their appearance isn't forced but part of the story. Clare's romantic suspense books have definitely become an autobuy for me.

Extreme Exposure by Pamela Clare

Extreme Exposure by Pamela Clare is a wonderful romantic suspense following journalist, Kara McMillan who may have bitten off more than she expected when she followed a tip of a whistle blower and add to the mix Senator Reece Sheridan who has a protective streak which extends to Kara.

It was interesting following the how tos of a journalist working on a breaking story. Clare uses her background as a journalist to have us step into the mind of a reporter.

The story that Kara is following is making someone unhappy to the point of sending out threats. These threats bring out Reece's protective streak while making Kara feel loved she worries how he can fit into her life.

I enjoyed this book so much I immediately found the next book that I had in my TBR pile by Clare.

Freefall by JoAnn Ross

Freefall by JoAnn Ross is the first book in her latest series, A High Risk Novel. Zack Tremayne returns back home to Swann Island after his last SEAL's mission in Afghanistan goes seriously wrong. Also home is Sabrina Swann who had her dream literally bombed beneath her feet.

Both hero and heroine are deliciously angsty and have wounds that need healing. Include a past that Sabrina hopes Zack doesn't remember. On top of their personal histories Swann Island seem to have a serial killer that believes they are above the law.

I can't wait to see where this series goes because Ross has indicated that we will get more tidbits about the events in Afghanistan in the next two books. This story interwoven with the serial killings makes this book edgy and wonderful read.

Behind Closed Doors by Anne Oliver

Behind Closed Doors by Anne Oliver follows Cleo Honeywell and Jack Devlin who share an unusual past. There past colors how they see life and relationships. Both Cleo and Jack would love their friendship to go beyond.

There are secrets that Jack is keeping that give the book its name. It was a bit of a surprise after reading the back cover. While the blurb talks about getting Cleo "behind closed doors," the secrets play a much bigger role. The heavy issue of child abuse is touched upon when looking at Jack's childhood.

I enjoyed Jack and Cleo's story and the nod at Scotty's future with his significant other.

A Mistress for the Taking by Annie West

A Mistress for the Taking by Annie West (published in the States as a Harlequin Presents and in Australia as Sexy) is about Marina Lucchesi who finds out that Ronan Carlisle can help settle a score with Charlie Wakefield and get control of her family business back. Marina isn't sure if she's over her head in pretending to be Ronan's mistress.

This story of revenge takes on more as Marina falls in love with Ronan. We see both points of view although we delve further into Marina's feelings. We don't learn all of his secrets until we are almost done with the book.

I enjoyed watching Marina go from ugly duckling to gorgeous swan and that isn't what attracts Ronan to her. He saw the inner strength.

As with Harlequin Presents we get a "glimpse" of life of the rich and famous. This book is part of the "Mistress to a Millionaire" series.

Seeing Stars by Kate Hardy follows Kerry Francis who is a pyrotechnics specialist and her sexy neighbor Adam Mc Rae, a ER doctor. Adam asks Kerry for a very big favor pretend to be his fiancee to lessen the stress on Adam's dad.

Both Kerry and Adam are don't want their "engagement" to interfer with their easy going friendship. Kerry gets a glimpse of a close knit family and Adam sees his friend in a new light. Can friendship grow into love? What happens when the rules change.

While Kerry thinks Adam is a shallow playboy, we see the caring that he has for his family come through with his fake engagement. Both characters want more but don't want to be the one to change the rules.

Fun read. I liked both characters with their flaws and insecurities. Hardy delivers another satisfying read.

The French Doctor's Midwife Bride

The French Doctor's Midwife Bride by Fiona Lowe takes place in the coastal town of Amaroo where Charlotte runs the community midwife program through the local hospital. Xavier has come to the hospital and given the task of getting the hospital in fiscal shape. Unfortunately this means looking very closely at Charlie's baby - the community midwife program.

Both Xavier and Charlie agree that there can be no relationship between the two of them. Charlie works hard to show Xavier how important her program is to the community. Their work together brings out the chemistry but can Xavier and Charlie overcome their individual past histories with love.

We see a lovely slice of small community life along the coast. Can Xavier and Charlie work beyond their past? Another new author added to my list this month.

Falling for the Frenchman by Claire Baxter

Falling for the Frenchman by Claire Baxter is a contemporary that takes place in Barossa Valley in Australia. Beth needs to fight for her position in Lowland Wines when Pierre Laroche comes to look at her management for the winery's new owners, L'Alliance.

Pierre and Beth met when Beth was visiting Pierre's family vineyard in France years ago. They separated under hurt feelings on both sides. Now Pierre is trying to make Beth see that the new ideas would not be that bad while Beth doesn't want to compromise her father's ideals in how Lowland Wines is run.

This gentle romance is wonderfully told. We get a glimpse at the hardships in running a family own winery with a second chance romance in the making.

This is another new author for me who I will be keeping an eye out for her books and may look up some of her backlist.

Reunited: Marriage In A Million by Liz Fielding

Reunited: Marriage in a Million by Liz Fielding is part of a trilogy focusing on an unlikely trio of women brought together through their bike ride through the Himalayas for charity. We meet Belle who feels she if a trophy wife to Ivo. Belle returns from her adventure determined to take charge of her life and make some changes including ending her marriage.

Through Ivo's POV we see that he see Belle as changed from her experience and that he feels he must win her back. Both holding secrets on how they really feel, we watch them reconnect. It was enjoyable watching Belle find herself as she comes to terms about her past. This second chance romance has the twist that the two didn't realize that there was love at the beginning of their marriage.

This is my first book by Liz Fielding but it won't be my last.

Strictly Legal by Kate Hardy

Strictly Legal by Kate Hardy is a wonderful contemporary about a very unlikely couple. Leo Ballantyne is a lawyer (barrister) who wants to be QC (Queen's Counsel) and has no time to be involved with Rose with her bohemian lifestyle.

Both Rose and Leo agree there can be no future between the two of them because they are too different. While they may not see a future together, they have chemistry that neither of them can ignore. Still living under the stain of accusation of dealing with stolen property, Rose likes her life as a market stall seller of period clothing and part museum work. She doesn't want to become involved with a workaholic who is serious and stait-laced. Leo can't see Rose fitting in with his plans to move up the ladder but what Rose and Leo have together grows into love. The question is can love overcome their differences?

This was renamed Mistress on Trial when released as in the States. I'm not sure why the need to rename the book. I think the title Strictly Legal is better. Hardy has become an author who I now look for within the Harlequin lines.

Cold Case Cop by Mary Burton

Cold Case Cop by Mary Burton is an interesting romantic suspense opening a cold case. Tara, a reporter, works with Alex who is one of the lead detectives to open the case of a socialite who disappeared on her wedding day.

Tara wants to look in the the disappearance of Kit on the day of her wedding. Lots of blood but no body or jewelry was found. Tara finds her reporter skills won't get her into Boston's elite places but Alex can. Unfortunately this fact puts Alex on the do not get involved list.

Alex and Tara were wonderful characters. I found myself very taken with Tara and her quest to find out what really happened. I enjoyed the mystery as well as the romance.

Top-Secret Bride by Nina Bruhns

Top-Secret Bride by Nina Bruhns continues the mystery haunting the Lazlo Group in the Mission: Impassioned continuity series. Lazlo Group agent DeWitt has immediate chemistry with Marina Bond.

Marina and DeWitt work inside the diamond trade to find more clues to who is killing Lazlo Group agents. I enjoyed Witt's determination to get close to Marina and find out how far their chemistry ran. Marina's assertion that she can handle the work by herself makes it very interesting as someone is aiming for one of them.

We learn that deception runs deep and the Lazlo Group continues to be the target. Bruhns writes a great romantic suspense and I continue to look forward to her next books. (Please note this book goes before Bulletproof Marriage - I blogged them backwards.)

The Stolen Princess by Anne Gracie

The Stolen Princess by Anne Gracie which is the start of her Devil Riders' series is a wonderful romance following Gabriel Renfrew, a younger son of an earl and former soldier, and Callie, a runaway princess.

Callie has run away from her deceased husband's country with their son Nicky. Someone in their court is out to kill Nicky and Callie flees to England. She is left on the coast to fend for them when Gabe finds her. Callie wants the freedom to make her own choices and does not want to fall in love. Gabe doesn't think he'll find love but is blindsided by Callie.

Anne has written a wonderful novel. Callie is a strong heroine who wants what is best for herself and Nicky. Historicals are not my normal fare but this book was picked out by my romance reading group. I tend to overlook this time period but Anne's writing has me rethinking my reading habits. I definitely want to follow Gabe's fellow Devil Riders in their stories.

Steam Bath by Suzanne Carey

Steam Bath by Suzanne Carey is the third story in the Summer Sizzlers and involves Mel and Joe dealing with the blackout in a very steamy office.

This blackout story has a tad more story before we get to the blackout. We follow Mel with her misadventure to go on a date with Joe that her friend won in an auction.

Fun story but no one I would have picked out if it wasn't included with the Linda Howard story. As I wrote when I blogged about Overload by Linda Howard, I debated if I should blog the three stories as one or as individual books.

Hot Copy by Carole Buck

Hot Copy by Carole Buck is the second story in the Summer Sizzlers. I loved the two major characters - Mitch Nelson, a news director, and Christy Kavanaugh, one of the news anchors. The pair have a past relationship that started with a blackout which makes for an interesting story.

We follow them through the blackout of the summer with their past history woven into the events. Christy needing her space and Mitch ready to commit to a future together. Was Christy ready to commit almost 20 years later or did she still have doubts?

This was the strongest of the three stories in the Summer Sizzler.

Overload by Linda Howard

Overload by Linda Howard is part of a three book compilation, Summer Sizzles '93 (also published several other ways and separately.) The background is a widespread blackout that leaves Elizabeth Majors and Tom Quinlan alone in a locked office building. This gives Tom time to find out way Elizabeth ran from their relationship 6 months earlier.

Ninety-five percent of the book the focus is on Elizabeth and Tom with no other characters in the scene. Howard does a great job of following their story with POVs from both characters. While there is a hint of what Elizabeth is hiding in not wanting a relationship with Tom, when she tells her story you are sympathetic to her reasons for needing space.

I loved the bio that is included at the end of the story. That was as much fun to read as the book.

(I debated about blogging this as a book or part of a novella but I noticed that it has been sold as a solo book.)

One Night, One Baby by Kate Hardy

One Night, One Baby by Kate Hardy follows Jane who on a whim snaps a picture of a tall dark stranger, Mitch Holland. Jane spends the day and night with Mitch with no strings attached to make up for everyone forgetting her twenty-fifth birthday. While attraction sizzles between Jane and Mitch, they realize that they are very different. Jane wants stability while Mitch thrives on the chase.

Several weeks later Jane realizes that her day of fun has turned her life upside down with a baby. Now Jane and Mitch must see if their divergent lifestyles can mesh to become one. Mitch is hunted by echoes of a past pregnancy and regrets.

Jane's support group of her flatmates hadn't forgotten Jane's day but had a surprise party planned but the birthday girl never showed up. Following Mitch's struggle to deal with Jane's pregnancy was heart wrenching at times. Hardy did a fantastic job of letting us see both Jane's and Mitch's struggle to find happiness.

This was a delightful find. I picked this book up because of the backcover blurb and wasn't disappointed.

Expecting His Love-Child by Carol Marinelli

Expecting His Love-Child takes place in Melbourne and involves Millie who had a wonderful last night fling with Levander Kolovsky. There evening had the unexpected result of a baby and Millie returns to Melbourne to find herself the center of attention.

I picked up the book because it takes place in Melbourne and backcover blurb despite the title. Levander is an interesting complex character with a rough background growing up in Russia. He is now part of the elite in Melbourne when confronted with the headlines that Millie is expecting his child. Millie is a struggling artist who is very much out of her league dealing with the rich and famous.

While the plot held my attention, the descriptions were a tad too flowery for me. I felt Millie while an likable heroine a tad naive and way out her element to deal with such a powerful hero. I enjoyed the places that Marinelli had her characters visit.

Just One Look by Joanne Rock

Just One Look follows Tabitha Everhart who works as a body double for commercials and television shows. Her calm days take a violent turn as she is staked by someone from her past. Enter Warren Vitalis, a ballistic expert for the police, who happened to be passing by Tabitha's apartment the night of her first attack.

It has been a few years since I last read a Blaze. I picked this up for a challenge on my JD Robb group to read a book with either a musical title or something dealing with music in the title. I purchased this book last year because the backcover blurb caught my eye.

I enjoyed the storyline and loved the depth of the book. Both Warren and Tabitha had secrets in their background that made their romance a twisted road to find happiness. As with the Blaze label there is a touch more "sizzle" than with plain Harlequin Romance. I will definitely look for other books by Joanne Rock in the future.

My Spy by Marie Ferrarella

My Spy by Marie Ferrarella is the continuing story of the Lazlo Group which was introduced with the miniseries Capturing the Crown and continues with Mission:Impassioned. This chapter focuses on Joshua Lazlo and his rescue of the Prime Minister's daughter, Prudence Hill who was kidnapped. Joshua.

Prudence is no shrinking violet and is in the process of free herself when Joshua arrives to rescue her. Their exploits back to London show Josh that the press is very wrong about Pru and Pru learns what makes her "Secret Agent Man" tick. I enjoyed their journey.

I accidentally read the second book in the series and did not realize it was a miniseries. Subsequently I've purchased the entire series. My Spy is the first book in the miniseries. Who is sabotaging the Lazlo Group and why will be uncovered in the miniseries.

Falling for the M.D. by Marie Ferrarella

Falling for the M.D. is the first book in the Wilder Family Continuity series. We meet Dr. Peter Wilder who must now fill the shoes that his father had at the Walnut River General Hospital and with his brother and sisters. Peter is convinced that a conglomerate taking over the hospital is not in its best interest while Bethany Holloway is determined that the take over is the right choice. Peter learns of his father's secret and hasn't decided if and how to tell his siblings the news.

While we learn about Bethany and her history, the focus is on Peter. The secondary story of the hospital takeover allows for an interesting look at healthcare while not having it overshadow the romance between Peter and Bethany.

Ferrarella does an excellent job in drawing the reader into the series and sets up the story focusing on Peter's sister, Ella.

Heroes

For Nalini Singh's Contest she wanted to hear about our favorite heroes from romance novels, TV or movies and why.

I'm trying to think of romance books I constantly reread.

A new author to me last year.. Robyn Carr has a wonderful series the Virgin River series. I fell in love with the character from the third book in the series (Whispering Rock) Mike Valenzuela. I loved how Mike helped the heroine, Brie, return to life after she was raped. While tough subject... Brie was a survivor and had to learn to trust again and Mike was so loving in helping her slowly regain her confidence.

Roarke from JD Robb's In Death series is wonderful. I love how he takes care of Eve. It doesn't hurt that he is brilliant with computer and has millions. His background makes him a very angsty hero.

Ken "Wildcard" Carmody from Suzanne Brockmann's Out of Control is one of my favorites. I find myself rereading his story when I want a comfort read. Kenny is not tall and does not consider himself good looking. He is resourceful and has a heart of gold.

Conlan from Alyssa Day's Atlantis Rising is a great hero. He has endured major pain and his life full of angst. He leads his Warriors with confidence. I love when he speaks formally to Riley. He doesn't know what to do with a strong female who speaks her mind.

I could go on and on but these four came to mind first.

Seduced For The Inheritance by Jennifer Lewis

Seduced for the Inheritance had an interesting premise. Our heroine, Anna, has inherited a piece of property which is part of De Leon's family estate. We learn the history of Anna's mother and the De Leon patriach, Naldo's father. Needless to say Naldo is not pleased and is determined to find a way to get the property back from Anna at any price.

I enjoyed how Naldo loved his heritage and the estate. I wasn't as taken with Anna. We learn that she has always loved Naldo since she was a teen. I never really warmed up to her as much as I have with other heroines.

Millionaire to the Rescue by Ally Blake

Millionaire to the Rescue gives a glimpse of what it would be like to live in a fishbowl and have it grumble before your eyes. Brooke Findlay must rebuild her life after her famous wealthy husband leaves her with two young children and no money. Coming to Brooke's rescue is Daniel Finch, her husband's best friend.

Ally does a fantastic job of fitting many emotions into the HRomance format. She takes the reader through Brooke's journey to find that she is more than just a news headline or mom. Danny is a closet romantic. He tells Brooke he hasn't found the woman he wants to be the last woman he'll kiss.

Ally brings Brooke's two children to life. Beau and Lily are an intergral part of this love story. Nice touches like Lily needing a security blanket of a boa after her dad dies.

I enjoyed the tidbits about life around Melbourne including the evening picture on the back. I'm thrilled to have found writers from the Melbourne area while we are living here.

Wonderful read although I do wish HRomances were a tad longer.

The Remains of the Dead by Wendy Roberts

The Remains of the Dead is the first book in the new series Ghost Dusters Myestery series by Wendy Roberts. We meet Sadie and her employee Zack who have a very unusual job - to clean up crime scenes after the police are finished with the area. Sadie's ability to speak to the dead while cleaning up from their deaths adds another dimension. Sadie meets Trudy Toth who seems to believe her husband, Grant, is innocent of the murder-suicide that the police have concluded in their report.

What a wonderful debut novel. There is a mix humor in this suspense filled story. Someone doesn't want Sadie investigating Trudy's claim of her husband's innocence.

We are introduced to several characters who I hope we'll see more of in future books. Maeva also has the ability to speak to the dead but she makes her living with her abilities while Sadie unique talent is only known to a few. Zack Bowman, an ex-cop, was given a second chance when Sadie hired him. Hints of a future between Sadie and Zack are very subtle but aren't required in this mystery.

The twists to the solution of the murder kept me involved until the very end. Looking forward to more books in the series.

Informed Risk by Robyn Carr

Informed Risk is an early book by Robyn Carr (Virgin River series). We meet Christine Palmer and her two children on the eve they are rescued by Mike Cavanaugh. Both have histories which as Mike puts it need to be healed.

As with Robyn's books we not only have the wonderful main characters but we meet Mike's large family and Chris' estranged aunt with a mutt named Cheeks. Robyn creates characters that we care about and want to find their HEA.

Definitely have parts that tell the time point to the book being written in the later 80's - use of fireman and not fire fighter and smoking to help calm the nerves of Aunt Flo. These minor things did not detract from the book. I wanted to jump in and become a part of the book, Thanksgiving at the Cavanaughs is wonder.

I will definitely continue my quest to read more of Robyn's backlist while I wait for more books in the Virgin River series.

Bedded by Arrangement by Natalie Anderson

Bedded by Arrangement (aka His Mistress by Arrangement for the US release) by Natalie Anderson is a fantastic read. Natalie packs a lot into the format of Mills & Boon Sexy Sensation (AU book release category). Emma Delaney, a workaholic with secret passion, makes a deal with Jake Rendel who was her neighbor growing up. Jake proposes to change Emma's image with her co-workers by pretending to have an affair. What happens when the pretense becomes all to real for both Jake and Emma? There were a few twists that made this a fun book to read.

Both Emma and Jake are well defined characters and I really wanted them to find their HEA. Definitely will look for more books by Natalie in the future.

Catch of the Day by Kristan Higgins

Catch of the Day is another wonderful contemporary by Kristan Higgins. The setting is rural Maine and we follow Maggie Beaumont, diner owner, and still single after 30. Maggie's bad luck was to fall for the new priest in town who then tries his hand at matchmaking. In the background is Malone the Loner who is the strong silent type.

Higgins writes wonderful contemporary that will pull at your heartstrings but with a healthy dose of humor.

Standing in the wings is her ex-brother-in-law, Sam Nickerson, who has been left by her sister.

This is the last book in Erin McCarthy's Vegas Vampire series. What a wonderful way to end the series with Gwenna Carrick's story. Definitely not your ordinary vampire series but a very fun light hearted series with Erin's wonderful humorous voice.

Erin does a great job in tying up the series which I'm very sad to see end. Many of the familiar faces from the earlier Vegas Vampires play an important part in the book as well as The Impalers (a Vampire band).

Gwenna Carrick is trying to break free of dominating men - her brother, Ethan who is the president of Vampire Nation and her ex husband, Donatelli who is now the vice president. Enter Nate Thomas a police detective trying to solve a series of murders which always seem to involve Gwenna.

While much lighter in nature than a lot of paranormals Sucker Bet has a mystery to solve along romance in air.

Twins for a Christmas Bride by Josie Metcalfe

This is a sweet medical romance that has a tad more of a bite than previous books in this category romance. While there is a happy ending, there were times I wondered how Metcalfe would manage it.

Dr. Sara Walker has been in the shadow of her twin sister, Zara, for most of her life. Zara adds marrying Dr. Dan Lomax and then encouraging Sara to carry a baby for Dan and her.

An accident with Sara and her babies(she is carrying twins) and a subsequent accident with Zara adds a twist not normally part of this type of book. While there is a happily ever after for our two major characters, I was wondering how the story could be tied up in the short format length of the Medical series.

Metcalfe does her best to redeem Zara by the end of the book but I would not want a twin like her.

I'd give this a 3 of 5. I enjoyed the book and probably will bring it back to the States.

The Exeuctive's Surprise Baby by Catherine Mann

I was happy to see that Catherine Mann was part of this fun continuity series. I love her writing and her books are autobuys.

The final book in the Garrison continuity series follows the story of Brooke Garrison and sworn family nemesis, Jordan Jefferies. Cathy does a great job in closing the threads that have been running through the 6 book series.

Brooke's surprise announcement that she is pregnant is only further complicated by the baby's father, Jordan Jefferies. Determined to be part of their baby's future, Jordan courts Brooke trying to find a way to break down her defenses. Family dynamics and distrust make Brooke not willing to trust Jordan.

Cathy adds her own signature with wonderful angst with that happily ever after as the reward. As with a lot of category romance my one complaint is I want longer.

Secrets of the Tycoon's Bride by Emilie Rose

This is the fifth book in the Garrison continuity series and focuses on the middle child of Garrison family. Adam Garrison is looking for recognition and wants a respectable wife to prove himself worthy in the eyes of his older brothers and the business establishment. Lauryn Lowes is the perfect solution. A marriage to a respectable woman will give Adam the stablity he needs.

Adam's proposal will give Lauryn access to the answers to her background but agreeing to arrangement is not what she sees for her future.

Emilie fits her story neatly in the series. Both Adam and Lauryn find that letting down their defenses will allow them to find their happily ever after. There are glimmers of the last story in the series - Brooke's story.

The McKettrick Way by Linda Lael Miller

The McKettrick family and the O'Ballivan family meet in this continuation of the McKettrick series now focusing on the McKettrick women.

Meet Meg McKettrick who has several secrets including she can see and talk with her great -great grandfather Angus who is the patriach of the family.

This is a second chance love story which is wonderful because you know that the characters have a history. While one learns of Meg and Brad history as the book goes on, you can feel there is a connection filled with angst.

As with any good book, I needed tissues and had some smiles. From the ending, it looks like Miller plans another McKetrrick book and I can't wait for more information.

Using the rating system.. I'd give this a 4.5 out of 5. Definitely a keeper with my other McKettrick books in the series.

Vows and A Vengeful Groom by Bronwyn Jameson

This is my first book of the year and my first book review and blog post. I heard about this new continuity series at the signing of Sizzle, Seduce & Simmer in Melbourne late last year.

I've enjoyed earlier books by Jameson and was happy to see that she got to do the first book in this continuity series that spans two countries, Australia and New Zealand, and deals with a family feud, lost brother and a stolen necklace. She does a great job of introducing many of the main characters and history without it being an info dump. I loved that you got glimmers of who the next players may be.

Sound intriguing? I was hooked with Kimberly's (our heroine) description of Ric Perrini - "Her lover for ten torrid weeks, her husband for ten tumultuous days. Her ex for ten tranquil years."

I enjoyed this book immensely and can't wait for the next book in the Diamonds Down Under continuity series. I'd recommend this to others who enjoy the SD format. 4 out of 5.
