Promises to Keep by Kathryn Shay

Promises to Keep by Kathryn Shay follows an undercover operation in a high school when that school is at risk. Secret Service agents Joe Stonehouse and Lucas Ludzecky enter Fairholm High as a counselor with his nephew in high school. Principal Suzanna Quinn is a firm believer in open communication with both her staff and students. Learning that her school is a risk puts her ideals at odds with the good of her school.

Shay's many years as a teacher come through strong in this wonderful look at schools, teaching styles and the problems that are in our schools today. She created an ideal program where agents go undercover to help schools at risk. With so much school violence this story resonants.

There are two romances that we follow. Lucas has to maintain his cover as a high school student although he is well past eighteen. He'd love to have more than a student relationship with Kelsey Cunningham. Joe walks a fine line between doing his job and getting involved with Suzanna.

As always Shat does a fantastic job of drawing us into her story and makes us care for them. I read this book because it was the story of Caterina Ludzecky's brother Lucas. I loved the small snippet I saw of him in Cat's story.
